Ganduje Resigns as APC National Chairman Over Health Concerns

Abuja: The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, has resigned from his position.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ganduje submitted his resignation letter to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) via its National Secretary, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru.

Ganduje, who previously served as the Governor of Kano State, cited health reasons for his decision to resign. He was elected as the sixth APC National Chairman on August 3, 2023, and expressed that stepping down would allow him to focus on his health.

NAN reports that, according to the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Dalori, is set to assume leadership of the party until the national convention scheduled for December. The sudden resignation has reportedly caused confusion at the party’s national headquarters, where staff and members gathered to discuss the development.

A senior party administration member, speaking anonymously, revealed that all personal belongings of Ganduje and his aides had been removed from the office. When reached for comment, APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, stated he was unaware of the resignation but promised to verify the situation.

NAN also reported that members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) were thrown into panic, describing Ganduje’s resignation as unexpected. However, some NWC members contacted by phone claimed they were unaware of the development.

A reliable source within the party assured NAN that Ganduje’s resignation would not impact other NWC members or the party’s operations. The source emphasized that the national chairman’s position would be filled during the upcoming national convention in December.
