Govt Media Fully Covered Leader of Opposition

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Phillip Makgalemele says the Leader Of Opposition was fully covered by the government media being Radio Botswana and DailyNews in his response to the State-of-the-Nation Address on November 18.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Mr Makgalemele said the the Leader of Opposition was covered by Radio Botswana’s Dikgang tsa Parliament at 8:10pm and Radio Botswana’s news bulletin at 8:00pm and 9:00pm on November 18.

He said he was also featured in the DailyNews dated November 20 on page two, adding that the position of government towards coverage for similar occasions was that Botswana television normally covered the full proceedings of Parliament live only on occasions of the swearing in of newly elected members of Parliament, budget speech, and the State-of- the-Nation Address.

Member of Paliament, for Kanye South, Mr Abraham Kesupile had wanted to know if the minister was aware that the Leader of Opposition in Parliament was not covered by the government media, Radio Botswana and Botswana Television, in his response to the State of the Nation Address on November 18.

And if so, he should state the position of government towards providing coverage to the Leader of Opposition for similar occasions.
