Abuja: The Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW) has expressed its approval of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to establish the South-West Development Commission. The commendation was made by the President of the Council, Aare Hassan, during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Hassan, represented by Alawode Rahmon, YCYW National Coordinator, stated that the commission is expected to enhance infrastructure development, stimulate economic growth, and improve social welfare in the South-West geopolitical zone. The visit aimed to foster collaboration on regional and national development issues, with Hassan praising the President’s efforts to support youth through the Ministry of Youth Development.
Hassan emphasized the group’s intention to fully support the Tinubu administration, revealing plans to mobilize over two million votes for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. He urged the government to increase its focus on food security, national security, youth development, and economic advancement. Additionally, Hassan called on the President to continue engaging and empowering youths to ensure their meaningful contribution to national development.
In response, the minister, represented by Chief of Staff Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, praised the group’s proactive approach to governance participation. Olawande affirmed the ministry’s commitment to youth development, highlighting the upcoming national youth conference as a positive step for youth engagement. He mentioned the launch of a nationwide portal for youth registration, emphasizing that the initiative will be youth-led, inclusive, non-partisan, and transformative.
The minister noted that the effort seeks to develop solutions that are informed, approved, and led by youths, addressing the needs and aspirations of Nigeria’s dynamic youth population.
