High Commission Raises Funds for Abian

Botswana High Commission in London has raised P51 000 through a fundraising event for a 14-year-old Motswana girl, Abian Ntshabele who is battling a rare form of ovarian cancer called Immature Teratoma.

A news release from Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stated that the High Commission and Botswana Community in the United Kingdom, also known as Team Abi UK, joined on-going efforts in Botswana and other places in the world to assist Abian Ntshabele towards a life-saving operation that is due to be performed at a specialist Children’s Hospital in China.

The fundraising reception, which was held at the Botswana High Commission Chancery in London on January 16, raised P51 000. Other donations worth P7 500 were made in kind by Chacalli, a diplomatic duty free store in the UK, which provided refreshments for the occasion.

The release sid guests at the event included members of the diplomatic corps, the mission’s corporate clients, Batswana and their friends and other well-wishers who were invited by the High Commission.

It said all the donations collected by the Botswana High Commission would be deposited in a trust account and will be availed to the family.
