| December 13, 2016

A High Court in Cape Town has ruled that the appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng as Group Executive for Corporate Affairs (GECA) of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) was unlawful and irrational.

Judge Owen Rogers said here Monday that Motsoeneng is not entitled to occupy any position at the public broadcaster until a report of the Public Protector (Ombudsman) into the affairs of the SABC is set aside or a disciplinary process against him is concluded.

Earlier, the country's main opposition party, the Deocratic Alliance (DA) had said the party was confident that the judgment would be be in their favour. The DA had petitioned the court against the appointment of Mosoeneng as the SABC group head of corporate affairs.

The court ruling came as the a Parliamentary Adhoc Committee continues with its inquiry into the SABC's affairs and the the fitness of members of its board to hold office.
