This year began well for Zebras goal-minder Kabelo Dambe after he was blessed with a baby girl on Friday last week.

The little girl, named Sesentle Matshaba Dambe was born in his home village of Tutume on January 3 at the Tutume Primary Hospital. The excited Dambe could not be there when the baby was born as he and his girlfriend of six years had expected the baby on January 13 instead. “I was on my way to South Africa when I received a call to say my girlfriend Chedza Matshaba has been hospitalized and was likely to give birth.

My plan was to seek permission from the club to come back and be with her when the baby arrived but God decided to bring the baby earlier when I could not immediately return. But I’m excited all the same although my wish of seeing her arrive could not materialize. She is my first child and I am looking forward to meeting her soon” Dambe told Sun Sports from his base in Rustenburg.

Dambe was forced to travel earlier to South Africa for the start of their training program at his club Platinum Stars, which was set for this past Monday, but says he was saddened when he arrived there only for the starting date to be postponed to January 10. “Had the postponement been announced while I was in Botswana, I would have been there for Sesentle’s birth, but because we were already in South Africa, Tsotso (Ngele) and I decided to just stay around until we start,” he said.

He says now he has been motivated to work even harder as there is someone he will need to provide for. “I am so so happy. After my friends and teammates received news that I was blessed with a baby, they took turns in showering me with congratulatory messages. Some even have been advising me on how to be a good parent.”

Dambe looks to already have even bigger ideas going forward. Asked about his plans, he told Sun Sports to get back to him around December. “For now I want to work on building a house for my family so that when I marry, there will be a place for them to call home.” Asked when the wedding can be expected, Dambe said, “Ask me in December, I will give you a definite answer!”
