JAMB Suspends 113 CBT Centres, Announces Mop-Up Exam Date

Abuja: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved June 28 for the conduct of the 2025 UTME mop-up examination. This announcement was made in a statement released in Abuja by the board's Public Communications Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the examination will accommodate 5,096 spill-over candidates and those who failed biometric verification during the main exercise. Benjamin explained that the new date was due to the special dispensation granted to absentee candidates of the main and resit examinations. The first session for the examination day will start at 8:00 a.m., and candidates for this session are advised to arrive one to one and a half hours before the commencement of the examination.

Eligible candidates are urged to print their examination notification slips starting Monday in preparation for the mop-up examination. Benjamin noted that 91,742 candidates who were absent in both or either of the main and resit examinations will also be given this opportunity, which is exclusively for the 2025 UTME. A total of 96,838 candidates have been rescheduled for the 2025 mop-up exercise in 183 centres across the nation, while others will be kept on standby.

Benjamin also mentioned that a significant number of CBT centres implicated in sharp practices during the ongoing security investigation are being suspended, with those found culpable set to be delisted and reported for prosecution. A total of 113 CBT centres have been delisted or suspended nationwide due to multiple infractions in the main or resit examinations.

The board commended the security agencies, particularly the DSS, police, and NSCDC, for their diligence in the ongoing investigation of identity theft and examination malpractices syndicates. These investigations have resulted in the arrest and prosecution of numerous culprits, including a few JAMB officials, professional examination takers, and syndicates involving some school proprietors and tutorial centres.

As a consequence of the investigation, several examination towns are no longer eligible for the mop-up examinations. Candidates from deactivated examination towns will be assigned to the nearest eligible towns. Benjamin requested the understanding of these candidates as they are reassigned.
