President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama says government will in the next financial year provide accommodation to public officers working at Mokgenene in the Shoshong constituency.

Addressing Mokgenene residents on Sunday (November 9), President Khama said lack of proper accommodation frustrated public officers hence government’s move to address the issue. He assured residents that government had not forgotten about them especially that they were leaving far from resources.

The President said due to the economic meltdown, government halted some of its programmes, but since the economy was recovering from the recession, every Motswana will be assisted. On other issues, President Khama promised that his office will look into their request about the two unused boreholes in the village.

He said his office will first request permission for the use of the two boreholes to benefit the village. The President said his office will purchase the engine for the full operation of the boreholes once consultations are complete.

Earlier, giving welcome remarks, Kgosi Mabedi Motlhagodi complained of shortage of accommodation for public servants especially primary school teachers in the village.

Kgosi Motlhagodi requested government to provide accommodation for public servants in Mokgenene, as they currently occupy dilapidated Village Development Committee (VDC) houses. Kgosi Motlhagodi had also requested for the inclusion of a maternity wing at Mokgenene clinic, adding that expectant mothers receive such services from afar in Mahalapye.

For his part, the Member of Parliament for Shoshong and Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Phillip Makgalemele thanked the president for making Mokgenene village his first visit since elections and said they appreciate it.

He raised concern about the bad status of Mokgenene Dibeteoloka road, saying it needs to be improved.
