Kugbo and Mabushi Bus Terminals to Handle 20,000 Passengers Daily – Otunola

Abuja: The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Planet Project Ltd, Mr. Biodun Otunola, announced that the newly inaugurated Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals in Abuja are designed to process over 10,000 passengers each day. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, an event officiated by President Bola Tinubu in celebration of his second year in office.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Otunola highlighted that the terminals are capable of accommodating 120 buses and taxis each day for both intercity and intracity travels. He explained that while the terminals at Kugbo and Mabushi serve both intercity and intracity operations, the terminal under construction in the Central Business District (CBD) is intended primarily for intracity operations within Abuja.

Otunola also stated that each of the three terminals would provide employment for at least 100 individuals. Job opportunities will span various departments including security, ticketing, facility management, control room, electrical, mechanical, maintenance, and bus control. He likened the operation of these terminals to running a mini airport.

He noted that prior to this development, transportation in Abuja was predominantly car and road-based. The new terminals signify a governmental investment in public transport aimed at enhancing comfort and safety for commuters. Otunola described these facilities as transportation hubs equipped with modern amenities found globally, ensuring safety, comfort, and convenience.

The development is expected to enable people to travel with confidence in a safe, secure, and serene environment. Otunola expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for entrusting Planet Project, a local contractor, with the opportunity to execute this project. He emphasized the significance of such trust in proving local capabilities in executing world-standard bus terminals.

Otunola also mentioned the need for additional bus and taxi terminals across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), suggesting that at least 12 such facilities would be required to adequately cover the area.

During the event, President Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stated that the new terminals would enhance trade and provide orderliness, safety, and comfort to commuters. FCT Minister Wike thanked President Tinubu for his support in the ongoing transformation of public transportation in the FCT, marked by the construction of these bus and taxi terminals.
