Master Timbers has sponsored Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) with P150 000 to be used for the association’s four-year development plan that runs from 2015 to 2018.
Speaking during the sponsorship launch in Gaborone on Thursday (July 23), BTTA president, Lesego Maifala, said through their four-year development plan, they aimed at improving the state of table tennis in Botswana.
Also, he said they intended to increase the number of junior athletes competing in international competitions.
In addition, he said the association would be able to address the issue of poor performance so that players could start winning medals during international competitions.
Therefore, Maifala thanked Master Timbers for coming on board to assist BTTA, pointing that it was the beginning of new things as more was coming.
The managing director of Master Timbers, Yang Xiaoping said they were pleased to have partnered with BTTA.
“As a Master Group, we believe in good corporate citizenship and we have committed to assisting development of sport in our community. This is not the first time we have partnered with BTTA,” Yang said.
Since 2010, he said they had assisted BTTA with funding and sponsorship in kind because as Master Timbers, they were passionate about table tennis.
Yang highlighted that development was key to success in any sport, and they felt honoured to be approached to partner and plant a seed of success in table tennis.
“Our passion with table tennis development continues to grow each year and we feel honoured. I stand to be corrected, but in terms of monetary assistance over the years, The Master Group has topped the list of key sponsor for BTTA,” Xiaoping said.
Chairperson of Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC), Solly Reikeletseng hailed BTTA for their development plan.
He said sponsors which support sport must be given recognition adding that BTTA should help Master Timbers grow as a company.
