The Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Unity Dow will attend the 38th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) general conference from November 1 to 9 in France.
A press release from the ministry says the minister will attend the conference in her capacity as the minister responsible for relations with UNESCO and the president of the Botswana national commission for UNESCO.
The minister will be accompanied by Dr Gloria Somolekae, who is Botswana’s nominated candidate for the executive board of UNESCO for 2016-2019, the permanent secretary in the ministry and officials from different ministries.
While in Paris, Dr Dow is expected to attend the official opening of the 38th UNESCO general conference, UNESCO general policy debates, deliver Botswana’s policy statement and participate in the UNESCO board elections of which Botswana has nominated Dr Somolekae as candidate.
In addition, the minister will also pay a courtesy call on the director general of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova and hold meetings with France Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research and the secretary general of the Republic of Korea She is expected back home on November 13.
