Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi says his ministry has authorised Botswana Defence Force (BDF), Botswana Police Service, and Botswana Prisons Service to engage professional consultants to review their respective conditions of service.

Updating Parliament on November 24 about the review of conditions of service of the three departments, he stated that the decision to engage professional consultants was with the view of coming up with the most professional and objective analysis of the current status, and find possible long term and affordable solutions. Mr Kgathi said procurement processes were at different stages in the respective departments.

“The consultants engaged by BDF will submit their report by end of December while the police consultancy was awarded on October 10, and is expected to take approximately three months. The consultancy to review the conditions of service of Botswana Prisons Service was set back by poor response of bidders to the initial aertisement of the tender,” the minister explained.

He said the whole process, which would entail analysis of findings by respective consultants, internal consultations on the findings, and consequential budgeting, was expected to be completed by February 2015 for possible inclusion in the 201516 budget.

Francistown South MP, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister to give an update on the review of conditions of service of the three departments.
