The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo says he is aware that there is currently no public transport operating on the Letlhakeng-Kaudwane road.

Responding to a question in parliament from Takatokwane MP, Mr Ngaka Ngaka, Mr Mabeo said this could be mainly due to the condition of the road.

“Our records show that there is no operator who has shown any interest to operate the Letlhakeng – Kaudwane route,” he said.

He added that his ministry had put in place a provision for subsidy for all public transport operators who ply gravel roads that are considered to be in difficult terrains such as the Letlhakeng – Kaudwane Road.Due to budgetary constraints and competing needs for development and improvement of roads, he said the upgrading of the road to bitumen standard was not included in the National Development Plan 10.

Mr Ngaka wanted to know if Mr Mabeo was aware that there was no public transport operating on the Letlhakeng-Kaudwane road due to insufficient gravelling and when would the road be tarred.
