The Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology (MIST), Mr Nonofo Molefhi, will officially launch the commemoration of the World Science Day for Peace and Development in Gaborone on November 10.
A press release from MIST says the main purpose of the day is to emphasise the role science and technology plays in helping improve the lives of people. Major activities and academic presentations will discourage the use of science and technology for destruction of life like making weapons of war and other dangerous substances.
Furthermore the release indicates that the day will start off with a march from 07:30am, from the Main mall to the UB stadium followed by the official launch from 08:30am.
Other activities planned for the day include seminar series which will be held at the UB Library Auditorium as well as an exhibition and interactive activities at the main mall.
It says the day will be concluded with the launch of the Botswana Academy of Sciences in the evening at Mokolodi Nature Reserve.
The evening activities will also include star gazing and on site interpretation of what the stars mean by some astronomy experts who will be at the event. Guests from the African Academy of Science and South Africa Academy of Science are expected at the launch to offer structural basis of the Botswana Academy of Science.
