Mitchell wins BTCL competition

Mitchell Greenland scooped position one in the BTCL phonebook cover competition in Gaborone recently.

Mitchell, a student of John Manckenzie School in Francistown, was awarded a cheque for P80 000 followed by Aobakwe Letang from Lotsane Senior Secondary School who got position two and received P60 000. Soft Matshwara of ABM University College got position three and went home with a P50 000 cheque.

One of the judges, Ofendile Montsiemang said initially all competitors were 21 and were reduced to 10 after elimination. He said as judges they looked into the authenticity of the art work and its adaptability.

Montsiemang highlighted that the competitors were from different schools, and that their work were to show the contribution BTCL had on the growth and development of Botswana since independence.

The deputy chairperson of BTCL foundation, Dr Baagi Mmereki said BTCL promotes and encourages art work, adding that they partnered with the organisers of the BOT50 committee for the competition of design for the phonebook cover for the year 2016.

He said BTCL continues to promote the talent of young people as the competition was mainly open for all students as a way of nurturing talent.
