MOETI REBECCA OF BOTSWANA ELECTED WHO DIRECTOR FOR AFRICA

COTONOU, BENIN, Nov 6 — The outgoing World health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa, Luis Gomes Sambo, has congratulated the people of Botswana on the election of his successor, Moeti Rebecca.

Speaking after the announcement of the election results here Wednesday as part of the proceedings of the 64th Session of the WHO Africa Region, which began here Monday, Sambo described Rebecca as a committed person and considered the position an important post in the UN System and the WHO in particular.

Sambo, an Angolan pphysician, stressed that the African region was faced with the greatest challenges as compared with the other regions of the world.

Rebeccawill assume the post of WHO regional director for Africa on Feb 1, 2015.
