Ngwato Land Board holds wellness day (Botswana Daily News)

Ngwato Land Board, the largest land administrative authority in Botswana which covers sub-land boards from Dibete to Rakops and the surrounding areas will host a wellness day this Friday (August 21) in Tonota.

Event coordinator, principal human resources officer II at the Ngwato Land Board Mr Elius Dipalo has issued a call for the public to attend the event in large numbers.

The event, which is scheduled to be officially opened by the deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Lands and Housing will be celebrated under the theme, Good Health – Towards Productivity, and will commence with a health walk at 6am from Tonota UCCSA Church to Tonota Sub Land Board premises.

Mr Dipalo has called on the community to attend the event in large numbers to test for various communicable and non-communicable illnesses, we have partnered with the village Health and wellness committee, and we would like to invite the community of Tonota to come for test to check for illness such as HIV/AIDS, body mass index and others.

We have catered for the community, there will be food and other goodies for them he said.

He said they have invited the Botswana Defence force (BDF) health team to take them through aerobics as well as conduct other wellness proceedings.

In an interview, the Ngwato land board Public Relations officer Shirley Tsheko, said that upon arrival at the event, participants will embark on aerobics for about 45minutes, thereafter the official programme will start, she said.

She said the event will involve residents of Tonota and villages in the periphery but mainly targeting Ngwato Land Board Staff, Tonota village leadership and the villages’ health and wellness committees in the area we expect about 400 people to grace this year’s wellness day.

Immediately after the official ceremony, participants will disperse to Shashe River Senior School grounds where the following activities will take place, egg race, orange race, sack race , 100 metres race, various races as well as netball and football games, she said.

She said that in the evening, activities will start at7 pm in Tonota at Baraka Lodge where a beauty pageant for both males and females land boards employees will be conducted.

The beauty contest will be preceded by a fashion show completing the evening activities with a talent exhibition.

The winners of the Ngwato Land Board beauty contest will earn an automatic qualification to the ministerial competition, where 12 land boards and eight departments will compete later this year, she said.

Subsequent to the wellness day activities, the Ngwato Land Board will donate a house to needy family in Tonota.

The family was identified through the help of the villages social welfare department.

In an effort to support the President’s call to help those in need, the Ngwato Land Board staff decided to make monetary donations as well as engage in fundraising activities which made it possible for them to collect enough money to build and complete the house.

The house is expected to be handed over on Friday by the Minister of Lands and Housing Mr Prince Maele.
