Nigerian Army Encourages Students to Pursue Military Careers

Ohafia: Brig.-Gen. Hassan Bello, Commander of the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Headquarters in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia, has urged students to consider pursuing careers in the military. This call to action was made during a public speaking engagement organized by the Brigade at Ngwa High School, Aba.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was part of the activities for the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL). Bello, represented by the brigade's Chief of Staff, Col. Maxwell Maaji, highlighted the career opportunities and benefits offered by the army. He noted that despite facing challenges, the Nigerian Army remains professional and resilient.

The commander reiterated the army's dedication to patriotism and national development. Bello further explained that NADCEL is an annual event that honors Nigerian Army members for their role in safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity.

During the event, the brigade's Education Officer, Maj. Patrick Otubo, provided students with guidance on ethical topics and potential career paths within the Nigerian Army. He encouraged students to embrace patriotism, honesty, and integrity while avoiding cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices. Otubo also addressed students' concerns about joining the military and explained the criteria for selection and enlistment.

Rev. Canon John Mammah, the principal of the school, expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian Army for organizing the event, noting its significant impact on the students. A student from St. James Model Secondary School, Aba, praised the army for the initiative, stating that the program had sparked her interest in joining the Nigerian Army.

The event, which drew students from various schools in Abia, featured an interactive session, cultural dance, and other side attractions.
