Notwane’s first ever match in the Debswana First Division South ended with a loss after Rolling Boys came from behind to overcome them 2-1 at SSG on Saturday (September 5)

One of the founding members of Botswana’s top flight league, Notwane are beginning their first ever campaign outside the top division following a controversial relegation last season.

Notwane are hoping to make an immediate return to the Premiership where they played throughout their history. They were taught how football is played at the lower division, as they started the game like house on fire, dictating terms to Rolling Boys who were just watching their opponents exhausting all their energy in the first stanza.

In the opening minutes of the game Notwane won a corner kick which was wasted by Thato Mogorosi.

Notwane continued to fight looking for an early goal, but lack of composure inside the box was the order of the day for “Ma-Cat”. In the 32nd-minute, Langa Mabuli received a killer-pass from Edward Tlhowe and wasted no time in giving his side the lead.

Rolling Boys showed their true colours in the second half and in the 53rd-minute a Kaone Molefhe corner-kick forced Itumeleng Selapa into making a good save. Rolling Boys continued to cause havoc and got their equaliser in the 71st-minute when another corner-kick by Molefhe was converted by Orapeleng Nkwe.

As pressure mounted on Notwane, Thabo Mbole handled the ball in the 85th-minute and the referee awarded Rolling Boys a penalty which was converted by Gomolemo Ramaabya.

After the game Rolling Boys coach, Thaloba Nthaga told BOPA that they could have finished the game in the first half but his players did not play well.

Nthaga said since it was their first game of the season, his charges were not fit, adding he was however happy that in the second half the players responded well and scored two goals in the event earning three valuable points.

His counterpart, Toba Mothuba said although they started well, they never played their game but would rectify their mistakes at training. In other games played on Saturday, Mogoditshane Fighters and Black Rangers played to a two all draw, Uniao Flamengo Santos beat Modipane United 1-0, Sharps won 1-0 against Lesirane, Letlapeng and Prisons X1 played to a one all draw while Black Forest beat Mochudi Rovers 1-0.
