The acting deputy district commissioner for Jwaneng, Mr Bonakele Nyoni has urged heads of departments (HODs) in Jwaneng to attend meetings without fail.

He said failure to attend meetings was a cause for concern, especially that most meetings were scheduled at the beginning of each financial year.

Speaking at a HODs meeting this week, Mr Nyoni noted that scheduled meetings should be given first priority and where necessary responsible officers should delegate junior officers after notifying the Office of the District Commissioner (ODC) well in aance. He said if people continued with this trend then departments would not be able to update each other about the progress of the district.

Furthermore, Mr Nyoni said even though he acknowledged that some of the scheduled meetings which were postponed later clashed with other engagements, it was aisable that his office be informed of other activities or departmental plans that may affect the district meetings.

He said even if an attendance monitoring tool could be used, it was still up to responsible officers to ensure that they attend such meetings without fail.

On other issues, Mr Nyoni urged supervisors to do their job properly because there was a lot of idling by junior staff during working hours. This, he noted, impacted negatively on service delivery because some offices would be locked the entire time. “Let’s all monitor the situation and supervise accordingly,” he said.

He also commended everybody who participated in the last general elections, saying they took their responsibilities seriously. He said the fact that no complaint was raised showed they did their job diligently.
