Pay Fines to the Banks, Not FRSC Personnel – Corps Marshal Warns Motorists

Abuja: The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has issued a warning to motorists to pay their fines to designated banks and stop attempting to bribe its patrol operatives. This directive aims to reinforce the integrity of the FRSC’s operations and ensure that all fines are appropriately processed through official channels.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the statement was made public by the FRSC spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide, in Abuja. Mohammed emphasized that motorists should refrain from offering financial incentives or other gratifications when apprehended for traffic violations. The FRSC strictly adheres to a zero-tolerance policy for bribery and corruption, aligning with its values, ethics, and standard operating procedures.

Mohammed further stated that any motorist attempting to bribe FRSC personnel would face arrest and prosecution. This measure is consistent with the Corps’ Establishment Act (2007), which firmly opposes any form of corruption. The FRSC is committed to maintaining the highest level of transparency in its operations, and any deviation from this standard is taken seriously.

The Corps Marshal advised motorists to comply with the law by paying their fines through designated banks, as this is the only legitimate method to settle fines. He clarified that all fines collected via patrol operations are deposited into the Treasury Single Account, ensuring accountability and preventing individual misuse. Furthermore, the Corps Marshal cautioned FRSC staff against soliciting bribes from motorists.

Mohammed encouraged the public to report any operative seen requesting bribes, as such actions violate the standard operating procedures for patrol operations. Reports can be made through various channels, including email at [email protected], the FRSC Mobile Application, or the Flag-It anti-corruption App. The public can also engage through social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube.

He reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to upholding the law and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. The public is urged to adhere to all traffic regulations concerning the movement of persons, animals, and goods on Nigerian roads. Mohammed also expressed appreciation for citizens who have consistently reported misconduct by operatives without resorting to violence.
