Abuja: The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming that Sen. George Akume has been replaced as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). This clarification was issued in a statement by the Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Onanuga described the report circulating in a section of the media as 'fabricated and misleading'. He stated that President Tinubu, who is currently on an official visit to Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointment regarding the position of SGF.
"There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Sen. George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation," Onanuga emphasized. He further added that the information regarding Akume's replacement was a fabrication by agents of mischief.
The statement comes amidst speculation that Akume had stepped down from his role as SGF to assume the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Presidency has urged Nigerians to disregard these rumors as fake news.
