Vice-President Shettima Urges Nation to Uphold Buhari’s Legacy


Daura: Vice-President Kashim Shettima emphasized the unwavering commitment of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigeria and urged the nation not to let his vision fade. He made these remarks during a special prayer session held in Daura to commemorate the third day of mourning since Buhari’s passing in London.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was conducted at the late president’s residence and attracted thousands of mourners from across Nigeria. The gathering offered prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul. In a heartfelt address, Shettima likened Buhari’s death to ‘the fall of a great wall’ and shared President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to preserving Buhari’s legacies and supporting his family.



Shettima extended gratitude to Governor Dikko Radda and Governor Babagana Zulum for their support, noting that officials would soon proceed to Abuja for a Federal Executive Council meeting dedicated to honoring Buhari. He mentioned ongoing visits from foreign diplomats and former colleagues who are arriving to express their condolences.



Special prayers were led by notable scholars, including the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali-Pantami, who emphasized that Buhari’s contributions to the nation deserve enduring remembrance and prayers. Pantami urged continuous prayers for the late president, asking for mercy and forgiveness from Almighty Allah.



Religious leaders such as Sheikh Muhammad Jingir, Prof. Ibrahim Makari, Chief Imam of Katsina Sheikh Al-Mustapha Gambo, and others also offered prayers. Governor Radda expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the support shown during this period of mourning, including the attendance of 25 ministers and the declaration of a public holiday in Buhari’s honor.



The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the event was attended by prominent figures, including former President of Benin Republic Boni Yayi, former Vice-President Alhaji Namadi Sambo, and members of the National Assembly.
