World Habitat Day for Palapye

| September 15, 2015

Palapye will host the World Habitat Day on October 5. Speaking at the special Sub-district Development Committee, the acting director in the Ministry of Lands and Housing, Mr Gaokgakala Rabalone, said the commemoration would provide an opportunity to sensitise members of the public on utilisation of public spaces and the purpose they served.

He said those spaces should be accessible and be well maintained to benefit members of the public.

Mr Rabalone said some spaces were left out in order to be used for meetings and other social activities and if they were to be turned into dumping pits or something else, some people would take advantage and apply for those kind of spaces, then develop them and rent them out to members of the public.

Mr Rabalone said during the commemoration, there would be exhibitions that will be displayed at stalls and schools would also be given chance to participate through competitions.

The sub-committee would be responsible for arranging for competitions at the national level and also for advertising the competitions, identifying the assessor, deciding on the prizes and token of appreciation for the assessor and certificates.

Some members of committee said the amount of P150 000 budgeted for the activities was too small to run such a big event. However, Mr Rabalone appealed to the committee to work round clock for the success of the event, by looking at some other means in terms of fundraising initiatives to augment the budgeted funds.
