Abuja: Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has urged Nollywood actors and other industry players to prioritise healthy lifestyle to avoid imminent health breakdown. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rollas made the call at the beginning of the 2025 ‘Annual Walk and Wellness Campaign’ of the guild, in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the AGN boss highlighted the increasing health challenges faced by actors in Nollywood, stressing the importance of adopting healthy living practices. He emphasized that the demanding nature of the filmmaking industry often leaves actors with little time to focus on their health.
Rollas advised actors to be proactive about their health, recognizing potential issues and seeking immediate assistance. He warned that ignorance of one’s health status could lead to emergencies, which often result in severe consequences.
He noted that the health walk, initiated three years ago, aimed to address the frequent health issues among actors who sought support online. Rollas stated that actors’ participation in health initiatives has led to a noticeable reduction in such cases, with many now enrolling in the AGN Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and other benefits.
The Walk and Wellness Campaign, held across the guild’s state chapters, aims to prioritize health and wellness within the industry. Rollas explained that the campaign includes medical screenings, mental health discussions, and therapy sessions to promote comprehensive well-being.
Rollas encouraged actors to enroll in the guild’s health insurance programme for affordable medical attention. He highlighted the availability of test kits for various health conditions during the event, emphasizing the importance of regular health check-ups.
In an interview on the sideline, Mercy Aminu, FCT Mayor of AGN and event host, expressed satisfaction with the participation of FCT actors. She stressed the importance of regular health checks, even amidst the tight schedules of actors, urging them to prioritize their health.
Nollywood stars also endorsed the healthy living campaign, commending the guild’s leadership. Benedict Johnson emphasized the necessity of knowing one’s health status, while Empress Njamah highlighted the importance of individual responsibility for health, noting the embarrassment of seeking online funds for health issues.
NAN reports that the Walk and Wellness Campaign kicked off at the Old Parade Ground, with numerous Nollywood actors in attendance.
