Africa Debuts as Host of IATA Ground Handling Conference


Nairobi: The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Ground Handling Conference (IGHC) is set to make its African debut in Nairobi, marking a significant milestone for the continent. This 37th edition of the conference is scheduled to take place from May 13 to May 15.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Director-General of IATA, Willie Walsh, highlighted that the conference will focus on key areas such as modernizing operations, investing in workforce development, and enhancing coordination and collaboration to improve performance. Walsh emphasized the importance of ground handling in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and resilience of the aviation industry. He noted that the theme of this year’s conference is ‘elevate,’ aiming to drive better performance within the ground handling sector by modernizing operations and reinforcing collaboration.



The conference will be hosted by Kenya Airways and will feature prominent figures such as the President of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, and the CEO of Kenya Airways, Allan Kilavuka, as keynote speakers. The event will include plenary sessions, specialized tracks, and workshops focused on ground operations, particularly the reliability of ground support equipment.
