Enugu: Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State announced that the cargo terminal of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, including its international wings, is soon to be operational. This disclosure was made during a celebration marking his two years in office at Okpara Square, Enugu.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the governor emphasized that the airport’s operational status would facilitate global cargo movement from Enugu, enhancing logistics and trading for Igbo businessmen. Highlighting infrastructural developments, Mbah noted that his administration had constructed over 800 kilometers of roads in two years, improving access to markets, industries, schools, and hospitals across urban and rural communities.
Mbah outlined additional achievements, including the activation of the Ninth Mile Water Scheme, which restored clean water to parts of Enugu metropolis. His administration also reinstated the school feeding program and launched a digital business portal to streamline registration processes. In the realm of civil service, reforms were initiated to ensure public offices serve actual workers via digital verification.
On the security front, the governor discussed the deployment of a Distress Response Squad and an AI-embedded security surveillance system, which has significantly reduced urban crime. Mbah also highlighted the delivery of five ultra-modern terminals across the state and an increased budget allocation to education, surpassing global benchmarks.
Looking ahead, Mbah revealed plans for the rollout of 260 Smart Green Schools, equipped with digital and scientific resources to enhance experiential learning. Additionally, 260 primary health care centers are slated for construction throughout the state, aiming to bolster health services and educational growth.
