Awka: The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has officially named the new Government House ‘Light House, Awka Mini City’. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, during a briefing with journalists on the outcomes of ANSEC’s recent meeting in Awka. The chosen name aligns with Anambra’s known moniker, ‘Light of the Nation’, symbolizing the state’s guiding role.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the state government has also established the Anambra Electricity Regulatory Commission. A recruitment drive has been launched to enlist subject-matter experts, enabling the commission to effectively carry out its responsibilities under the Anambra State Electricity Law. Additionally, the government emphasized its commitment to enforcing laws against child beggary by sealing and confiscating premises used as holding places for child beggars.
Dr. Mefor further revealed that a contract has been awarded for constructing a factory warehouse dedicated to processing pharmaceutical-grade kaolin at the Kaolin Plant in Ukpor, with an investment of N190.5 million. Additionally, the ANSEC has approved a contract worth N110.1 million for the extension of the Nnewi industrial line, which includes the supply and installation of a 750 KVA transformer at the Anambra State Kaolin Plant in Ukpor.
Furthermore, ANSEC has sanctioned a contract for the procurement and supply of official uniforms and operational gear for the ‘Operate Clean and Healthy Anambra’ initiative, at a total cost of N155.7 million.
