Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has attributed the growing support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to its achievements in less than two years in office, assuring Nigerians that the country will not become a one-party state. At the APC Renewed Hope Agenda Summit, held at the State House Conference Centre on Thursday, Tinubu addressed party leaders, the National Working Committee, the leadership of the National Assembly, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum, which comprises 22 governors. All collectively endorsed him for a second term.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of political choice and the constitutional right of citizens to associate freely. He expressed satisfaction with the accomplishments of the APC and encouraged more people to join, stating that a one-party system is not suitable for democracy.
President Tinubu conveyed gratitude to the Federal Executive Council members for their commitment to the vision of a better Nigeria and thanked the party’s leadership and National Assembly for their support. He highlighted the government’s economic reforms, noting that they have begun to yield positive outcomes. Tinubu reiterated the administration’s commitment to tackling economic instability, improving security, reducing corruption, reforming governance, and alleviating poverty through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President acknowledged the challenges faced since taking office in May 2023, but he emphasized that the necessary reforms have been implemented to address these issues. He highlighted the elimination of multiple foreign exchange rates and planned tax reforms as part of efforts to attract foreign direct investments, which are expected to create jobs and improve the standard of living.
The purpose of the APC summit was to review the administration’s performance over the past two years across key economic sectors. President Tinubu noted that the focus on long-term economic reforms has received positive feedback both domestically and internationally.
