APC Women Demand Equal Opportunities for FCT Elections


Abuja: All Progressives Congress (APC) women have called on the leadership of the party to provide equal opportunities for women and men in the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) elections. Dr Mary Alile, APC National Women Leader, made the call when she received the FCT female aspirants from the six area councils of the FCT in her office on Wednesday.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, as the forthcoming chairmanship and councillors’ elections in FCT approaches, Dr Alile emphasized the importance of recognizing the vital roles women play in the party and society. She stated that women are leaders, innovators, and change-makers who can significantly contribute to the vision for a prosperous and inclusive FCT. Dr Alile urged the APC leadership, particularly in the FCT, to ensure that women are given equal opportunities to be flag bearers in these upcoming elections.



The women leader highlighted the necessity of promoting fair play and inclusivity, allowing talented and capable women to represent the party at all levels. She noted that supporting women candidates would inspire future generations and demonstrate a commitment to a more equitable society.



Dr Alile praised the courage of women contesting in the elections, acknowledging the impact of female leadership in transforming lives, advocating for justice, and fostering inclusive growth. She encouraged the women to support one another, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and shared experiences.



She pledged her support for their aspirations, promising to work tirelessly to create an environment where women feel empowered to lead without barriers. Dr Alile also committed to establishing mentorship programs, providing resources, and advocating for policies that promote gender equality in leadership positions. She commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to empowering women across Nigeria.



Hajiya Salamatu Jibrin, APC FCT Women Leader, also praised Dr Alile for her efforts in championing the cause of women nationally. Meanwhile, Rejoice Yakubu, a Councillorship aspirant at Kuduru Ward, Bwari Area Council, expressed appreciation for President Tinubu’s favorable disposition towards women’s appointments in government. She appealed for support in the FCT elections to amplify women’s voices.



Jennifer Nnamudi, a Chairmanship aspirant from Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), clarified that women were not competing for seats with men but were seeking to uphold the 35 percent affirmative action.
