Centre Calls for Increased Support to Address Needs of Underprivileged Schools and Communities

Abuja: The Centre for School Health, Education and Environmental Hygiene (CSHEEH), a non-governmental organisation based in Abuja, has issued a call for increased support to help meet the needs of underprivileged schools and communities. The appeal was made by Dr. Folasade Olusola Momoh, the Executive Director and Founder of CSHEEH, during the NGO’s 10th anniversary celebration in Abuja.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Momoh highlighted the necessity for support to enable the organisation to continue its work in promoting personal hygiene, school health education, and environmental sanitation across Nigeria. She reflected on the organisation’s journey, describing it as both exciting and challenging, particularly due to funding constraints that have hindered the achievement of its goals. Despite attempts to secure grants, the organisation has largely relied on support from friends, family, and personal resources.

Dr. Momoh elaborated on the organisation’s efforts to promote sustainability through health awareness campaigns. She mentioned that CSHEEH not only provides health talks but also ensures a lasting impact by distributing hygiene kits containing essential items like soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to children in orphanages and schools. These kits aim to encourage the continuation of good hygiene practices.

The executive director acknowledged that despite limited resources, CSHEEH has made significant strides through collaborations. Mrs. Grace Emoefe, the CSHEEH Board Chairperson, expressed gratitude for the progress achieved over the past decade, attributing it to personal sacrifices, commitment, and faith. She emphasized the ongoing challenges in sustaining operations and called for partnerships to expand the organisation’s reach.

Mrs. Ramatu Ajuji-Habu, Director of Special Duties at the Education Secretariat, FCT, commended CSHEEH’s efforts and advocated for stronger collaboration between public institutions and NGOs in the education and health sectors. She assured the NGO of continued government engagement and support, particularly in rural areas, to bolster its impactful projects.
