Lagos: The Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos, Ms Yan Yuqing, has affirmed China’s ongoing commitment to bolstering cooperation with Africa amidst global uncertainty. Yuqing made this statement during a reception on Monday in Lagos, celebrating both the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Yuqing emphasized China’s African policy, which is founded on principles of sincerity, effective results, amity, and good faith, alongside the pursuit of mutual benefits and shared interests. She highlighted that China aims to deepen practical cooperation, enhance strategic coordination, confront global challenges collectively, and contribute significantly to the development of the global South.
Yuqing also commended the Chinese community in her consular district for their contributions to enhancing China-Nigeria relations through investments, job creation, and cultural exchanges. She noted that local exchanges, economic partnerships, and people-to-people engagements have flourished, thanks to the active promotion by the Chinese Consulate General in Lagos.
The Consul General detailed the ‘Renewed Hope, Rebirth from the Light’ public welfare initiative, developed in collaboration with Chinese enterprises and academic communities. This initiative underscores China’s role in supporting Nigeria’s efforts in poverty alleviation and hunger eradication. The Consulate, guided by ‘diplomacy for the people,’ works closely with Nigerian authorities to protect the rights and interests of Chinese citizens and institutions in the country.
