Cross River to Host Global Investment Summit in London

Lagos: The Cross River Government has announced its plans to host an international investment summit in London from November 17 to November 19. The summit is designed to attract global investors and engage the diaspora in sustainable development initiatives.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the summit is themed ‘Unlocking Opportunities and Driving Sustainable Growth with the People’s First Agenda of Senator Bassey Otu.’ It will highlight strategic sectors and investment-ready projects across the state. Hon. Ignatius Oli, Chairperson of the Central Planning Committee of the Cross River State Diaspora Commission, emphasized the state’s positioning as a competitive investment destination in both Nigeria and West Africa.

Oli stated, “This summit is a strategic move to unlock partnerships that will fuel economic growth and align with the state’s People’s First Agenda.” The event aims to gather investors, policymakers, diaspora professionals, and development partners to explore opportunities in agriculture, tourism, ICT, manufacturing, renewable energy, infrastructure, and the green economy.

The summit will serve as a platform for business-to-business and business-to-government networking, with a focus on mobilizing domestic and foreign capital into high-growth sectors. Oli highlighted the importance of diaspora engagement, aiming to connect with Cross Riverians abroad to create channels for investment, mentorship, and knowledge transfer.

The outcomes of the summit are expected to align with the state’s development goals and support Nigeria’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan. Mr. Nero Ughwujabo, a public policy expert, will moderate the event.

Prince Otu Okor, Chairman of the Cross River Diaspora Commission, described the summit as a pivotal moment for the state’s global re-engagement strategy. He emphasized that the diaspora community is seen as vital partners in the state’s transformation agenda, not just spectators.

The summit will feature several investment opportunities across strategic sectors, including commercial farming, agro-processing, hospitality, eco-tourism, manufacturing in agro-allied industries, and renewable energy projects. The summit will also promote responsible investments in forestry and mining, creating pathways for diaspora-led investments through bonds, joint ventures, and mentorship programs.

The governor will deliver the keynote address and officially open the summit, which will feature a policy showcase on investment incentives and ongoing regulatory reforms. Panel discussions will address various sectors, while a special diaspora session will focus on skills transfer and strategic investments.

The event is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including investors, business leaders, development agencies, diplomatic missions, and senior government officials. Oli also acknowledged the support of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Nigeria in mobilizing multilateral partners to advance the state’s vision.
