Customs PTML Command Generates N90.2bn in Q1 2025

Lagos: The Customs Area Controller, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), PTML Command, Comptroller Tenny Daniyan, announced that the command generated N90.2 billion in the first quarter of 2025.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Daniyan shared this information during a management meeting held in Lagos. He highlighted that the Q1 2025 revenue surpassed the Q1 2024 figures, indicating an improvement in performance. In comparison, Q1 2024 saw a revenue collection of N66 billion, marking an increase of N23.2 billion in the same period for 2025.

Daniyan attributed part of this success to the customs transformation initiative known as B’Odogwu, which has generated N189.5 billion since its launch from PTML in October 2024. He noted that the command currently holds the record for the fastest cargo clearance time, achieving a two-hour processing time for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) consignments. The command aims to further reduce this clearance time to enhance trade facilitation.

Furthermore, Daniyan revealed that PTML now accommodates ships from China in addition to Europe-bound vessels, thereby expanding trade opportunities and potential revenue. The command has recently been approved for pharmaceutical imports, underscoring its regulatory compliance and operational capabilities.

Despite the increased trade activities, Daniyan assured that anti-smuggling and enforcement efforts remain strong. In the first quarter of 2025, the command seized 75 rounds of 12GA live cartridges from a used Toyota Tundra, valued at N2.24 million. Additionally, four rounds of 9mm ammunition and an empty magazine were confiscated from a Hyundai Sonata, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N334,257.

The comptroller emphasized the importance of the command’s role in the B’Odogwu pilot project, which has led to intensified stakeholder engagement through training for officers and customs agents. These practical sessions have enhanced stakeholders’ understanding of the system’s processes and operations.

Daniyan expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General, Bashir Adeniyi, for continuing batch-based stakeholder training, which has been instrumental in improving operations. He also acknowledged the collaboration with other sister agencies, which has contributed to increased revenue and reduced clearance times to under an hour.

Finally, Daniyan thanked honest traders for their accurate declarations and encouraged others to follow their example. He called on all stakeholders to support customs efforts in establishing Nigeria as Africa’s preferred cargo destination.
