Abuja: The Defence and Police Officers' Wives Association (DEPOWA) trained its members on the application of military protocols and emotional intelligence to their conduct as wives of serving officers. The training aimed to create self-awareness to help them avoid breaches of protocols and military ethics at functions and in all their activities.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, emphasized the importance of the training for the members to be more aware of themselves, relate better with one another, and maintain orderliness. She highlighted that understanding military order and protocol would aid the women in knowing their roles and responsibilities, thereby avoiding conflicts and potential troubles.
Musa mentioned that the wives of officers face unique challenges that necessitate strength, resilience, and compassion, which underscores the need for training in emotional intelligence. The training was strategically designed to focus on emotional intelligence as a key factor for achieving the goals set for the year.
She explained that emotional intelligence is crucial for personal and professional growth, affecting well-being, relationships, and interactions. The day's training aimed to enhance emotional awareness and refine social skills to foster deeper and more meaningful connections with loved ones, colleagues, and the wider society.
The DEPOWA President urged all association leaders to replicate the training across various chapters. Mrs. Vickie Irabor, the immediate past President of DEPOWA, delivered a lecture titled "Protocol for Armed Forces Spouses and DEPOWA Members," stressing the importance of understanding military protocol. She cautioned against the misuse of husbands' staff cars and advised against assigning demeaning tasks to orderlies or soldiers.
