FG Closes 41 Unity Colleges Amid Rising Insecurity


Abuja: The Federal Government has announced the immediate closure of 41 Federal Government Colleges across Nigeria in response to escalating security concerns following the recent abduction of school children in Maga, Kebbi State and Niger. This directive aims to prevent further security breaches in educational institutions.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the decision was communicated through a circular referenced FME/DSSE/GM/S.160/CII. The circular, signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, was addressed to all principals of the affected Federal Unity Colleges. The document emphasized the necessity of the closures due to recent security challenges and urged principals to ensure strict compliance with the directive. It also conveyed the warm regards of the Honourable Minister of Education.



The report lists the affected schools, which include Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Minjibir, Federal Technical College (FTC) Ganduje, FGGC Zaria, and FTC Kafanchan, among others. The closure also impacts institutions such as FGGC Bakori, FTC Dayi, FGC Daura, FGGC Tanbuwal, and several other colleges across various states. This measure comes as part of a broader strategy to safeguard students and staff in the face of increasing insecurity in the region.
