FG Commences Minimum Wage Arrears Payment to Former Corps Members

Abuja: The Federal Government has started disbursing N44,000 in minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This initiative marks the fulfillment of an earlier commitment associated with the recent revision of corps members’ monthly allowances, which increased from N33,000 to N77,000.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the payment targets individuals who completed their service before the implementation of the new allowance structure earlier this year. Former corps members have taken to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to confirm and express gratitude for receiving the arrears.

One user, Kingpin_black1, expressed appreciation, stating: ‘Thank you NYSC. Thank you President Tinubu. Nigeria will be great again.’ Similarly, another user, pharmacist_shezzy, commented: ’44k don land. NYSC no carry last. God bless Nigeria ????,’ while ifeoluwa_X shared: ‘Just got my alert. I almost deleted my NYSC account. Thank you FG.’

The payment is widely regarded as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to its promises, generating enthusiasm online and being viewed as a gesture of renewed trust and accountability.
