FG Deploys Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Volunteers to Liberia, Debriefs Returnees


Abuja: The Federal Government on Wednesday deployed 20 volunteers to Liberia under the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) programme. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, at the ceremony held in Abuja, 14 volunteers who returned from the same country after their two-year service to humanity and Nigeria were debriefed.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr. Yusuf Yakub, the Director-General (D-G) of NTAC, highlighted the accomplishments of the volunteers in their host communities and praised them for elevating Nigeria’s reputation abroad. He urged the new volunteers to serve as worthy ambassadors and to uphold the legacy of their predecessors.



Yakub specifically commended the returning volunteers for their significant contributions, particularly in publishing books and other achievements. He reflected on the positive impacts of TAC volunteers in African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries, citing the example of volunteers appointed to high academic positions in the Gambia.



He advised the outgoing volunteers to maintain Nigeria’s image and serve humanity diligently, thanking President Bola Tinubu for his support of the initiative. Yakub emphasized the program’s importance for both Nigerians and Africans in ACP countries, noting Nigeria’s large and talented population.



Zakari Usman, the Director of Programme, recounted NTAC officials’ visit to Liberia, where volunteers had made notable contributions, including authoring books. He stressed the impact of these efforts on Liberia’s educational sector and encouraged the new volunteers to be exemplary representatives of Nigeria.



Adeleke Roland, a Physicist and the Team Lead of the returning volunteers, expressed gratitude to the federal government for the opportunity to serve. He noted their contributions to Liberia’s education system, which resulted in improvements in examination results.



Ismail Babatunde, the Team Lead for the deploying volunteers, assured that they would demonstrate the skills and human resources that Nigeria offers in their host community.
