Abeokuta: The Federal Government has inaugurated the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Innovation Park in Ogun. Speaking during the inauguration, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, emphasized the park’s significance for economic growth.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Tijani stated that the park is a vital component of President Bola Tinubu’s agenda, focusing on digital innovation, youth empowerment, and inclusive economic growth as part of Nigeria’s journey to a one trillion-dollar economy. The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to establishing Nigeria as a leader in digital infrastructure, talent development, and innovation.

The park is intended to empower youth by serving as a platform where skills meet opportunity, offering a launchpad for innovation that transforms ideas into ventures and industries. Tijani expressed confidence that Abeokuta has the potential to compete with other tech clusters in Africa, such as Lagos, Kigali, Accra, and Nairobi. He emphasized the importance of building foundational digital infrastructure across the nation, not just in major cities.

Tijani praised Abeokuta for its rich history, culture, and academic institutions, and commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his strategic investments in infrastructure and digital advancement. The minister stressed that strategic investment and collaboration are crucial for national development.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, also remarked on the project’s significance, calling it a tangible achievement for President Tinubu’s administration. He noted that the park will be a key element in accelerating ICT innovation, enhancing research capabilities, and driving sustainable growth in Nigeria’s digital economy.

Maida explained the concept behind the Digital Industrial Park, which aims to foster innovation and digital entrepreneurship in the ICT sector. He revealed that similar parks are being developed in Kano, Borno, and Enugu States, each equipped with facilities to support training and skills development.

Governor Abiodun celebrated the inauguration as a milestone in Ogun’s journey to becoming a leading technology hub in Nigeria. He described the park as a catalyst for economic growth and a testament to the state government’s dedication to harnessing technology for the benefit of its citizens.
