Yola: The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, unveiled the first Liquefied to Compressed Natural Gas (LCNG) facility in North-East Nigeria, which is located in Yola. Ekpo described the development as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s gas sector, especially in the North-East region.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ekpo stated that the inauguration of the LCNG facility is a testament to the potential of public-private collaboration. He highlighted that this is a crucial step towards the Federal Government’s ‘Decade of Gas’ agenda. He praised Greenville LNG for its commitment to expanding access to clean and sustainable energy and emphasized the project’s role in driving economic growth through gas adoption for national energy security.
The Minister noted that the Yola LCNG plant represents a turning point for the region by providing opportunities for energy access, job creation, and business development. He mentioned that the project integrates LNG and CNG distribution for use in vehicles and industrial equipment, offering cleaner and cheaper energy alternatives. Ekpo reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting private sector investment in the gas value chain.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, represented by Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, remarked that the inauguration of the LNG’s refuelling station in Yola is a strategic milestone for clean energy access and economic diversification in the North-East. He praised Greenville LNG for its strategic partnership with the people of Adamawa, emphasizing that the project promises to unlock opportunities and create jobs.
Fintiri stated that the L-CNG station aligns with the state’s development agenda by providing cheaper, cleaner fuel for public and private transport. He noted that the choice of Yola for this pioneering project reflects investor confidence in the state’s stability and security.
Eddy Broeke, Chairman of Greenville LNG, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the Federal Government’s gas expansion initiative. He announced plans to build 50 similar units across Nigeria, with completion targeted for the third quarter of 2026, supported by President Bola Tinubu. Broeke commended the Adamawa government for its partnership in expanding access to compressed natural gas (CNG) across the state.
