Abuja: The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy has officially announced the postponement of the 2025 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), which was initially scheduled to be hosted by Enugu State beginning November 22.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the announcement came via a statement from Nneka Anibeze, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Minister, on Saturday. The decision was made following an assessment of the national mood and concerns over recent insecurity in various parts of the country.
In a statement, Minister Hannatu Musawa, after consultations with stakeholders, emphasized that the postponement reflects solidarity with affected families and communities, showing respect for lives lost. NAFEST, known for its role in nation-building and cultural diplomacy, was set to highlight Nigeria’s unity and resilience with participation from over 28 states.
The minister explained that proceeding with the festival amid national grief would be disrespectful, and the decision to postpone is in line with the values of empathy, national unity, and collective sensitivity. A new date will be announced after further stakeholder consultations, including discussions with security agencies.
The ministry expressed gratitude for the understanding and support from participating states, cultural troupes, partners, and the public. They remain committed to showcasing Nigeria’s cultural diversity and anticipate delivering a more unifying NAFEST at a later, more appropriate time.
