My Husband Is Jobless, Has No Source Of Livelihood, Woman Tells Court

Ilorin: A housewife, Mulikat Abdulrasheed, on Friday sought a divorce in an Area Court in Ilorin, citing her husband’s lack of employment and means of livelihood as the reason.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mulikat revealed that her marriage to Abdullahi was arranged by her uncle, and she was unaware of Abdullahi’s joblessness and lack of financial resources at the time. It was only after the birth of their first child that she realized Abdullahi had no income. Despite her initial intentions to leave, her mother persuaded her to stay patient and endure the situation.

Mulikat stated that she eventually had three children with Abdullahi but found the circumstances intolerable. She claimed responsibility for the upbringing and financial needs of their children, which led her to conclude that she could no longer continue in the marriage.

The presiding Judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, addressed the situation by stating that Abdullahi had sent a letter via the court bailiff, expressing his acceptance of the divorce application. Consequently, Judge Aluko dissolved the marriage and instructed Mulikat to observe a one-month Iddah (waiting) period before she could remarry. Additionally, the judge ordered that a copy of the judgment be served to Abdullahi.
