Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Returns to National Assembly Without Apology to Senate

Abuja: Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday entered the National Assembly Complex, gaining access to her office after serving out her six-month suspension. Speaking with journalists, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that she would not apologise to the Senate, claiming she had survived injustice.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Akpoti-Uduaghan insisted that it would be unjust if she were not allowed to resume her legislative duties, as the matter is still pending in court. She emphasized the importance of receiving a letter to understand any conditions that might be set illegally.

Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed her concern about a leadership meeting held the previous day, where the minority leader, Sen. Abba Moro, was expected to present a motion calling on her to apologise. She questioned the basis of the apology, stating, “You can’t apologise for an injustice.”

She highlighted the prevalence of what she described as illegalities within the system and urged Nigerians to reject them. The Kogi Central Senatorial District lawmaker firmly stated that she would not offer an apology, saying, “I am sorry, I don’t have those words.”

Despite the challenges, Akpoti-Uduaghan encouraged Nigerians not to lose faith in democracy. She expressed optimism about the country’s future, noting that democracy is evolving and urging citizens to remain hopeful and patriotic as they work towards a better future leading into the 2027 elections.
