Abuja: Mr Uche Nnaji, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, has announced his resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, clarifying that his decision is not an admission of guilt but a personal choice.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Nnaji, who was appointed in August 2023, decided to step down amidst controversies related to allegations of certificate forgery. In a statement he signed in Abuja, Nnaji expressed that the past week had been marked by an orchestrated and sustained campaign of falsehood, politically motivated, and malicious attacks against him across print, electronic, and social media platforms.
He emphasized that these unfounded allegations and media distortions not only caused him personal distress but also distracted him from his work. Nnaji highlighted his five decades of building a reputation based on hard work, honour, and service to humanity. He stated that he could not, in good conscience, allow these distortions to overshadow the noble objectives of the current administration.
Nnaji further explained that his decision to resign is a personal choice, not an admission of guilt. He described it as a principled decision to respect the sanctity of due process and to preserve the integrity of the judicial proceedings currently before the court.
