Abeokuta: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has lauded the National Sports Festival (NSF) as a demonstration of Nigeria’s abundant talent and a testament to national unity. Obasanjo conveyed his message through a recorded video shown at the conclusion of the 22nd NSF held at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Obasanjo praised the bravery and sportsmanship exhibited by participants from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. He emphasized that the Gateway Games 2024 further highlighted the potential for greatness inherent in every Nigerian.
Obasanjo urged participants to maintain the spirit of friendship, camaraderie, and national unity fostered during the festival to help build a prosperous nation. He reminded them that they are not just champions in their respective sports but also champions of unity, diligence, resilience, and national pride.
The former President called on the athletes to keep the flame kindled in Ogun burning in schools, communities, institutions, and in the hearts of all young Nigerians committed to contributing to the nation’s progress.
He also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun for his collaboration with various stakeholders in organizing a world-class sporting event. Obasanjo noted that the governor effectively showcased the strength, capability, and hospitality of the people of Ogun State.
