PIA Drives Excellence in Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Says Permanent Secretary


Abuja: Dr Vitalis Obi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, has highlighted the significant impact of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) on enhancing staff productivity within the ministry. Speaking at the 2025 ministerial award ceremony for retirees held in Abuja, Obi commended the staff for their exceptional performance and dedication to achieving the ministry’s objectives.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event, organized by the Ministerial Awards Committee (MASCO), recognized 25 officials who had successfully completed their service in the Federal Civil Service. These officials were honored with awards and substantial gifts for their contributions.



Obi emphasized that the PIA has propelled the ministry to strive for excellence, helping it achieve significant milestones in the oil and gas sector. He stated that the ministry is committed to creating an environment that fosters productivity and excellence, which is crucial for national development.



The permanent secretary praised the retirees for their selfless service and encouraged them to take pride in their contributions to policy and structural reforms. He assured them that their expertise would be valuable for addressing future bureaucratic challenges.



Mrs Adaji Shehu, Director of Human Resources Management at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, noted improvements in service delivery and ethical conduct among staff, attributing these to the Award and Recognition System. She highlighted the importance of mentorship among senior officers to build a lasting legacy.



Retiree Mrs Oluremi Komolafe, former Director of Gas, expressed her satisfaction in serving the nation and emphasized the untapped potential of the gas industry, particularly in rural areas. Mr Isa Babagana, a retired Chief Statistician, urged civil servants to remain diligent and honest in their roles.



The ceremony also honored retirees such as Mr Kamoru Busari, former Director Upstream, Mrs Oluwakemi Ogunmakinwa, Deputy Director Press, and Mrs Gladis Obi, CEO ICT, for their dedication and service.
