Presidency Disclaims 2027 Campaign Billboards

Abuja: The Presidency has raised concerns over the increasing presence of billboards in various cities that promote the 2027 campaign for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. These billboards, featuring images of the President and his wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, have notably appeared in Abuja and Kano, as stated by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesman.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, while President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima appreciate the enthusiasm and support from their followers, they do not endorse any campaign activities that violate the country’s laws. The statement emphasized that the electoral law prohibits any form of campaign for the 2027 general elections at this time.

The statement further warned that premature campaigning can undermine the integrity of the electoral process and create unfair advantages. As law-abiding leaders, Tinubu and Shettima oppose any actions that could compromise the nation’s institutions and electoral process. The President has not authorized any 2027 campaign efforts until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets the official timetable for the elections.

The Presidency has called on those funding the 2027 campaign through billboards to cease such activities immediately. Tinubu and his deputy are focused on their current nation-building efforts, which include economic revitalization, human capital development, infrastructural renewal, social investment, and national security. Once INEC indicates that the election process may commence, President Tinubu will communicate his plans to the Nigerian public.
