Refugee Commission to Relocate 40 IDP Households to Keffi

Abuja: The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has announced plans to relocate 40 internally displaced households from the Federal Capital Territory to Keffi in Nasarawa State. Alhaji Tijani Ahmed, the NCFRMI Federal Commissioner, revealed this during the inauguration of an ICT centre in the Durumi IDP camp in Abuja, highlighting the commission’s efforts to facilitate the relocation process for interested individuals.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the commission has profiled the households to be moved 60 kilometers from Abuja to Keffi, where permanent structures such as classes, healthcare centres, skill acquisition centres, and a police station will be constructed to offer long-term support. Ahmed also mentioned that the commission is committed to sponsoring the education of 10 students from various FCT IDP camps up to the university level.

The newly inaugurated computer centre was established by Brand Life Vision Foundation, an NGO, with support from NCFRMI. Ahmed expressed gratitude to Hajia Binta Sidi, the foundation’s leader, for her dedication to providing computer education to the camp’s children, ensuring they receive essential literacy skills.

The commissioner noted that primary and secondary classes in the camp are supported by various educational foundations, including Brand Life Vision Foundation. The commission aims to partner with the Universal Basic Education Commission to ensure continuity in teaching, addressing the issue of foundations that have discontinued their educational support.

Hajia Binta Sidi stated that the foundation’s mission is to support 1000 children in IDP camps, focusing on those who are less privileged. The foundation has provided 13 computer systems and furniture, while the commission has contributed solar energy support, among other resources. The training initiative is structured to be ongoing, with new graduates continuously replacing those who complete the program.
