Abuja: The Senate has successfully passed three concurrence bills from the House of Representatives during a plenary session on Wednesday. These legislative measures were presented by the Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, representing APC-Ekiti.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the bills in question include the Chartered Institute of Auctioneers of Nigeria Bill 2025, the Broadcasting Practitioners Bill 2025, and the Federal College of Health Technology, Benisheikh, Borno State Establishment Bill 2025. Bamidele elaborated that these bills were transmitted from the House for the Senate’s concurrence, underscoring their significance in various sectors.
Bamidele stated that the Chartered Institute of Auctioneers Bill is intended to establish the institute, regulate its membership, and promote professional auctioneering practices within Nigeria. Meanwhile, the Broadcasting Practitioners Bill aims to regulate the broadcasting field in the country, setting minimum academic qualifications and ethical standards for practitioners to uphold.
Additionally, Bamidele noted that the Federal College of Health Technology, Benisheikh Bill is designed to enhance access to educational resources in Borno State. He encouraged his colleagues in the Senate to support the passage of these legislative measures, highlighting their potential impact on the respective fields.
Following the concurrence, Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed gratitude to lawmakers in both the Senate and the House for their contributions to the legislative process.
In related developments, the Senate also passed for a second reading a bill to amend the Federal Polytechnic Act. This amendment seeks to establish the Federal Polytechnic of Skills and Vocational Studies in Mbeke Ishieke, Ebonyi State. Sponsored by Sen. Onyeka Nwaebonyi of APC-Ebonyi, the bill has been referred to the Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund for further legislative input, with a report expected in six weeks.
