South Africa’s IDC to Highlight Energy and Mining Finance at African Mining Week 2025

Cape Town: Thabiso Sekano, Head of Mining and Metals at the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of South Africa, is set to participate as a featured speaker at the upcoming African Mining Week (AMW) 2025. He will be part of the high-level panel, "The Investor Perspective - Financing Africa's Mineral Industrialization," where he is anticipated to share insights into innovative financing mechanisms that are propelling project development across Africa's mining and energy sectors.

According to African Press Organization, Sekano will emphasize the IDC's significant contributions to advancing South Africa's mining industry, particularly in the area of platinum group metals (PGMs), which account for over 70% of the global reserves. Notably, the IDC recently approved R622 million in funding in June 2025 to support Canadian firm Theta Gold Mines in developing multiple sites under the TGME Project located in Mpumalanga Province. This seven-year financial facility aims to extract 1.24 million ounces of gold, generating employment opportunities and enhancing national revenue growth.

AMW is recognized as a leading platform for exploring a comprehensive range of mining opportunities throughout Africa. The event coincides with the African Energy Week: Invest in African Energies 2025 conference, scheduled from October 1-3 in Cape Town. During AMW 2025, Sekano will further elaborate on these developments, underscoring the IDC's dedication to fostering sustainable and inclusive growth within Africa's mining and energy sectors.
